COVID-19 Modifications for 2020-2021 Award Year
The pandemic continues, and it does not look like we will have in person concerts for most of the year. The only program currently running is the remote Bala Shruti. Unfortunately this means that opportunities to accumulate Shruti Laya volunteer hours are very limited.
Under these extraordinary circumstances, we will accept One concert performance as an alternative to satisfying the minimum volunteer hours requirement for Shruti Laya. (You can also satisfy the requirement by performing 10 hours of volunteer work as usual. This applies to MCs and interview hosts). Note that the volunteer hours required for the award are unchanged, and you will have to accumulate them from other voluntary work. The only thing that has changed is the criteria to qualify for a PVSA award from Shruti Laya.
COVID-19 Modifications for 2019-2020 Award Year
Because of the extraordinary circumstances this year, there have been no concerts since March. This has made it difficult for our volunteers to accumulate the necessary hours, and also to collect signatures and file the forms. The following changes have been implemented to make this process easier. All volunteers have already been contacted directly with these updates. They are collected here for reference, and supersede any statements in the Volunteer Guidelines or the PVSA Application form
All award requirements listed on the website and in the form will remain unchanged (we do not have the authority to reduce hour requirements)
Time to accumulate hours for this year has been extended from Aug.31 to Sept.30
Deadline to file the form has been extended from Sept.30 to Oct.31
The signature requirement on the form can be met by providing a certificate, or an email (from the official email address) from an officer of the organization for which volunteer work was done.
The scanned form may be sent by email
Volunteer hours accumulated from Sept.1 to Sept.30 2020 can be used either for this award year 2019-2020 or the next year 2020-2021 (but not both!)
The President's Council on Service and Civic Participation founded the President's Volunteer Service Award in 2003 to recognize the important role of volunteers in America's strength and national identity. This award honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action, too.
We are delighted to announce that Shruti Laya is an official Certifying Organization to issue the Presidential Volunteer Service Awards! The award will include a personalized certificate of achievement from PVSA, a congratulatory letter from the President of the United States, and an official President's Volunteer Service Award medallion. For more details about the award, please visit http://www.presidentialserviceawards.gov
Shruti Laya's award year will run from September 1st to August 31st. PVSA awards will be made exclusively to Bala Shruti members. Volunteer hours from the start of the award year will count towards this award. Volunteer hours can be for any organization and of any type, but atleast 10 hours must be earned by volunteering at Shruti Laya or Bala Shruti .
For full rules and procedures, please review the Volunteer Guidelines . These are continuously updated, so please check before you actually submit your application on the PVSA Application form . You can use this form to track your volunteer hours over the year.
Please get in touch if you want to be considered for this award, so that you can be registered with the PVSA organization as a Shruti Laya volunteer!
